When I do my gravel vacs, I try to be careful. I ever bought the smallest syphon I could. The darn thing gets clogged with leaves two or three times before even syphoning out 3 gallons. Even with as small as this thing is, I always lose some of the little crayfish into my bucket. I can net them out at the beginning of the water change, but as I get about 2 gallons out of the tank, the water in the bucket is just brown. I couldn't spot the babies if I tried.

Are there any suggestions? I think I just have to do a manual leaf pick up cram a sponge over the intake of the tube. I hate to lose any of these guys, but especially since I'd like to get some to share with others eventually.

Well it looks like you guys are as stumped as I am right now. I will be putting a stocking over the end of the tube and just not sucking up much it looks like.

I was about to say you should put a fine mesh or net over the intake. I know what you mean when you say you want to share dwarf crays with others someday; I'm an "other" :grinyes:

I rubber band a brine net over my siphon end for my cherry tank....it keeps the babies out but i do need to manually remove any leaf debris.
