If he'll eat them, he might survive for awhile. Most won't. You really need a good thriving population of copepods and other minute crustacea to support a mandarin. Unless you have 75+lbs of live rock and it's been in there for more than 6 months I'd see if you could return it.

I second voodoo child's post...return it, it must eat those natural foods....
My tank is well infested with copepods. They're all over. Will he be ok on them? The tanks has about 10-12 pounds of live rock right now and the tank is 4 months old.

IMHO 10 - 12 lbs of live rock will not sustain a copepod population to feed a mandarin. Chances are he will decimate the population, run out of food and then starve to death. This is unless he eats prepared foods or unless your will to keep a constant supply of live foods for feeding.

Sorry. Mandarin dragonettes rarely can be coaxed to non-live food. The amount of rock you have is 5-10% of what you need to support it otherwise. You should probably return it. When I was a newbie, I was lucky enough to have an LFS employee tell me why I shouldn't have one, but that is all too unusual.

go with what they tell you!!!! in time you may get them to eat but that takes too much time and theres a better chance they'll never take. Those are my fav fish and i wish i had a tank to suport them in.
