My pistol shrimp has grown A LOT since I got him with my live rock 1 year ago. He may have tripled in size, and yet I only see him once every couple of months. He hides in my rock and moves the sand around. I didn't realize until the rocks on my left side of hte tank started sinking. I don't mind him, its just that I want to get another cleaner shrimp, but I fear what he will do to him. I thought about a mantis shrimp trap, but not sure if that would work.

if you know where he hides why not just net him?

Um good luck, i guess try the mantis trap. I had a pistol shrimp that i thought was dead for 6 months, then i moved and while i was breaking down the tank kept hearing that strange loud click, sure enough as I picked up the last few pieces of live rock he came darting out. When I set the tank up in july at my new place i put him back in there and didnt see him for a while but ive found that spraying some brine shrimp at the edge of one of the tunnels he made will sometimes lure him out to eat a bit

Im going to try the trap first, just becuase I don't want to make a mess with moving all the live rock around. The thing is I never hear the clicking noise, and i am 100% sure he is a pistol shrimp.

Mine almost never clicks unless something is bothering him (like me breaking down the tank to move it). Good luck with the trap, if that doesnt work i dont think he is coming out till the tank gets broken down

Mine is entertaining at night, it comes out and will zip around until my emerald crab comes near, then start popping him. :p Doesn't hurt the crab, and the shrimp is super tiny, this one'll quadruple in size.

As for catching, the only thing I can think of would be to tear everything out. :(

I've got a Pistol shrimp in with the remaining suvivor of a group of 3 peppermint shrimp, and the pistol leaves the peppermint alone. As in, ignores it. I'm sure a Banded Coral Shrimp would be another story, it would either eat the pistol or get eaten by it.

:) that gives me the slightest bit of hope that my pistol shrimp is still alive in my 40B

Not sure what I am going to do with him yet.
