The LFS guy just got 2 used 12 gal Aquapods. Was thinkin about picking up one and making a small nanoreef...
I have NEVER dealt with saltwater, but want to someday take the plunge. Just wonder if a 12 gal tank is worth the effort. Wanna make it a small reef with a small clown fish, and maybe a manderine goby...
Any thoughts?
More work in a marine nano but a reef is definitely the way to go in one. A smaller clown such as an ocellaris would be fine but I'd not put a dragonette such as a mandarin in one for fear it would starve and rather quickly at that.

What do they eat?

dragonnets - mandarins, scooter blennies etc eat copods. Some people have been successful at getting them to eat frozen foods (I have not). Realistically you need to have a large system with lots of live rock and or a refugium in a sump where you can grow them out to feed the tank.
If you can't do that you'll be buying bottles of the stuff to populate the tank and use as food for the fish. I haven't even gotten mine to go after brine shrimp fry which are very very small. I haven't tried rotifiers yet however.
Bottled Copods are actually quite pricey even more so if you can't get them locally and have to ship like I did.
