i currently have a 14000k over my reef. i like the color, but would almost preffer more of a blueish light. would a 20000k bulb do the trick or do i have to add actinics?
 
If it time to change your 14k MH anyway try a 20k. That will certainly satisfy your preference to the blue side. Also, it is really amazing how much blue the lights loose over time, when I changed some of my 14k's with new 14k's the old ones looked orange in comparison, so it just might be that they have lost the shorter wave length (the blue) end of the spectrum as they have got older. As the MH's and I think for most other lights, with age can't maintain a short wave length and start to slacken off. I also run some compacts the 55watt ones 2x actinics and 2x 10k and stage the on off times so actinics > 10k 55's > MH's then the reverse.
