:welcome: to AC!

What were your water parameters? Tank size? Any other fish in it? How large were the JD and oscar? How often and how much water do you replace? What food do you provide them and how often do you feed them?

Water tested fine, 30 g. tank, jd was 8" & oscar was 3". Was feeding Wardley's shrimp pellets formula 3 x's a day. They would come take them one at a time. Was feeding jd feeder goldfish at 1 a day. Feeder fish kept in own tank, they also died of the same stuff, along with 3 synodontis. Could it hav come from the feeder fish?

could have...or diseased fish in a too small tank - the 8 inch JD alone is pretty cramped I would think...what do you mean that the water was fine ?

but, bearing in mind that your feeder fish died of similar it would appear likely that they infected the cichlids.

sorry you lost 'em - think about whether you need to use feeder fish again; no benefit and always a risk.

Ammonia and nitrites at zero with nitrates not exceeding 40 ppm, correct? Did you check the feeder tank's water parameters as well? Feeders can carry lots of pathogens when water parameters are not up to your expectations and when stressed. I agree with Coler.
