Wow, so much black in them. Are those breeding colors, or a color morph?

I love rams. :hearts:

The pictures are GORGEOUS. :) Thanks for sharing. I went to the LFS to get a pair myself but could not tell the difference between male and female. Even in your pictures, for example the first, the male and female look reversed. With some I can't tell if (1) the dots are in the big black dot since some rams don't seem to have one pronounced dot, (2) The dorsal fins all seem rather similar sized in small-mid sized rams, (3) the pink spot isn't always so easy to see or you don't now if it's pink or just a minor discoloration which may be based on the rams' mood. Is there any relatively more simple way to tell?

I go by the pink belly. The darker one is the female and you can see she has a pink belly and he never does. In these shots they are definetly in the mood and very bright. When they are in normal colors you can still see the pink. I agree neither fish has more prominant finnage and they are both roughly the same size.

I got them in July as youngsters. They started coloring up about October. Their color varies depending on their mood, but they look similar to the pictures most of the time. She glows blue and pink when she is swollen with eggs/

Thanks again for all the kind words everyone.

Overhead flash, clean glass, turn the filter off for 30 minutes or so before taking the pictures. Just remember to turn it back on.
