That isn't surprising. Red or Green Arowana is hard to come by, They are actually considered extinct fish. Beside, Arowana does exist in nature, but FH is a hybrid.

If I have money, I won't mind getting my hands on a Red Arowana. That thing is really hard to get. I don't think that Arowana is available at all in Hong Kong. In Malaysia, if anyone is trying to catch Red or Green Arowana...that person will get a big fine.

On the Red or Green Arowana (Scleropages formosus) You have to also compensate for the costs of permits to import a CITES I animal, if such a thing is even legal.

People pay tens of thousands and even millions for world champion Koi.

FHs are the next craze, and $2000 is nowhere near the tops...the site of the FH creators has some pretty expensive fish, too. www.ddott.com

Yeah, I heard that getting Red or Green Arowana from another country, have to have permits.

I had Green and Red Arowanas before when I still lived in Malaysia. That things were sure my pride.

Red and green are illegal in the US. That doesn't mean though that you can't buy some in some back rooms of some stores. http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/030618/new026_1.html
check this link

The guy faces up to 3 years in prison and $250 000 fine for importing 16 asian aro without a permit.

You guys should check out aquabid.com

Some of the prices are SICK.

http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.cgi?fwflowerhorn&1060290293

Some days there are fish for 5 grand. Yea ok bud no problem.

As for the flowerhorn. I remember just a while back one of my LFS's that I frequent was asking $60 for a half inch fry. I was in there yesterday and they are now $30 for a 3 inch juvenile. Only about %15 of the fry will get the awesome colors. The rest usually turn out quite drab.

Hence the price drop. I would get a trimac way before I picked up a flowerhorn. At least then I know that I will get some nice color.

ive saw a so called real flowerhorn, for 3000 once. on some asian website. it was 3000 USD! the most i would pay for a FH would be about $.50 i jsut hate hybrids they are bad for the hobby.

the most expensive one ive seen in person was $800 for about a 8", he was crazy aggressiive tho i mean crazy i saw the guy at the lfs drop in like 20 guppies and they were gone in like a minute. that was at an LFS in los angeles.

I'd buy any fish from Jeff Rapps, hell you could buy one of everything, before I bought that fish. A beautiful wild fish is so much, well for lack of a better word, cooler.

One of the LFS around here has a 20 000$ arrowna on display.

Wow...I wonder if they have an insurance policy on it, because that's a crazy thing to have swimming around in the open!

They have all sorts of documents posted about its tank.Dont' know exactly what they all are but some of them where awards varifying what kind of arrowna it was. I would think it would be insured, but i'm not sure.

They also had a 13 000$ one and a 8 000$ one, but both where still small(about 12")

I love fish and all but I'd rather have a corvette.

Could you imagine the size of the tank you could get for that kind of money?

One of my LFS's had a 3000 gallon (or some where around that I can't remember the exact size) for $15000 Can. they got $11500 for it. That was including all the plumbimg for the tank, and the lighting that could light up a parking lot.

I would be in heaven woth a huge tank like that. Granted my wife would make me live in the garage because she would be so peeved off (should have seen her face when I showed up at home with a 100 gallon out of the blue  ) But boy would it be worth it. To have that sucker in my living room.

Arrowanas are really cool fish...... but 20 grand ....ummmmm???..... NO!
