I did receive a list of types of compatible fish but I don't remember seeing if Bristlenose catfish or Farlowella are compatible or not: which is better? I would like to get at least two of one type no more; then the Discus later. I appreciate everyones assistance. I am sure I will have more questions later.......Sportsnutim

Both are compatible.

Well, I have to see what the "boss" (my wife) thinks, which of the two she likes the best. Sportsnutim

I'd keep both if space permits.;)

A lot of discus keepers keep bristlenose. I don't think I've ever run across anyone mentioning they kept the Farlowella. Are they strictly algae eaters?

Bristle Nose or Rubber Lip will do just fine.

Hard to say mine ever eats algae. It's always on the bottom foraging for food. I rarely see it sucking the glass. It's usually perching on the wood or simply looking for food.:perv: Actually, it's spoiled over foods I give it.:lipssealedsmilie:

Debbi, I always mention this pleco everytime I get the chance.:grinyes: I call it Sturisoma.:)

The Sturisoma is closely related to the farlowella or are they one and the same? I took a look at this: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=1167 and the temperature requirements are quite lower than for discus. Top temp 78.8F.

and here under farlowella: http://badmanstropicalfish.com/profiles/profile57.html
it says farlowella top temp is 77F.

Mine is Sturisoma panamense. First link showed Sturisoma aureum. I think you're right though. The pleco I have here is often called royal farlowella leading me to believe in the first place they're the same but your suspicion that they may be not is true.:) Thanks for the correction, Debbi.:) As far as the temp, I guess they do not make the right choice for discus tanks at any rate. A bristlenose would be a much better option. There are other species worth a try aside from BN.
