Finally got my canister in today after 2 months of waiting. It is a three stage filter that comes with a sponge at the bottom, carbon on the next, bioballs and ceremics at the top. I was thinking of bustin up a piece of live rock and replacing everythings except the ceremics stage with LR. I am not sure what he ceremics do? Is this a good plan? Thanks

I'd be more inclined to replace everything but the pad.

I would nix the carbon, but I would think twice about replacing the ceramic rings/bio balls with rock rubble. I think the whole idea behind the rings/balls is part of this system's no bypass or channeling of the water being filtered. With rubble you'd get a lot more bypass than using the mediums that were intended to be used. Your filter would be a lot less efficient and you'd be negating one of the major improvements this filter provides. I'd advise keeping both pads also.
