i am finally for real going to start my reef now that i have had a year to get all of the equipment ready, from the diy sump to the hoses to hook everything up. I was going to get myrock from tampa SW as one of their packages, are these packages really a good deal? or should i just get the rock from them and the cleanup crew from somewhere else? the clean up crew for a 37 just seems huge to me i could be wrong though. has anyone has had anyexperience with one of these "packages"? please any input is great, thanks everyone. :help:

I'd check the online classifieds here and on reef central for LR. I got a great deal that way!

I am not familiar with this company or what they offer, but typically these cleanup packages that are offered are completely over-kill and the animals may wind up starving to death; especially in the early stages of a tank where there are no micro/macro algaes established or little critters present. It is best to add your clean-up crew a little at a time as needed IMO

They don't send you the clean-up crew until the tank is cycled. They send 3 different shipments I think. The first shipment is your base type rock and live sand, then after that they send you the rest of your "premium" rock and then they send the clean-up crew. You don't get it all at once.

Their rock has A LOT of life on it. It's not like the rock you find at your LFS. You won't be dissapointed. It's farmed out in the Gulf.

No doubt the rock looks beautiful, and it is better that they send the cleanup crew after you have a cycled tank (most would end up dead otherwise), but these numbers are still ridiculous... According to this 'recipe', I should have 100 turbo snails and 50 hermits in my 29 gal, when in actuality, I have 4 turbo and 6 nas snails and 6 hermits and there's plenty of food for everyone. Additionally your tank would never be able to support any type of "grazing" fish with this large of a cleanup crew such as a lawnmower blenny.

thats what i was thinking, the cleanup crew is overkill, but my LFS is always willing to buy/trade animals/plants, etc. so i think i might just go that route, yes it does say they do separate shipments of parts of the package, but their recipe definitely seemed way too much, so thaks and the rock there looks amazing, thaks for the input, this place is great:grinyes:

100 snails!!! I suck, I only got like 3 snails in my 40g i guess its time to goto the lfs!!!

LOL! I have 6 in my 10 Gallon. I think I'm perfect on numbers.

I have heard nothing but good about TBS.com so I would go for it.
