i put my frogspawn in my tank about five days ago, it hasn't opened up yet. is this normal or is it sick or dead?

Dead. Small chance it could make a comeback but doubtful. I have never seen a frogspawn take more than 2 days to open back up when placed in a tank. Looks like a lot of sponge on that branch as well. Your not supposed to be able to see the skeleton, even when deflated. You can see the ridges at times, but there should still be flesh covering the entire skeleton.

so i should pull it out of the tank? how do i know for sure if it is dead or dying?

Tissue disintegration will be a visual cue. Also, if you pull it out of the water and it smells really bad, then it's dead/dying.

It looks like it's significantly receded, but a come back is possible. What type of lighting and flow is it under?

i have the 72" outer orbit hqi setup.. it has 3 150 watt hqi and 4 96watt actinic. it gets indirect alternating flow from my wavemaker... not too strong but not too soft either.

Holy crap.. well, you definately have good lighting and flow. Next question would be water parameters but I am guessing if you have such a good light and wavemaker you also make sure your water is good. Dunno what to tell you.. maybe you bought one that was already in the process of dying.

i called the guy that i ordered it from today and he said he would replace it... we think it just didn't survive the trip from his shop to my house... hopefully i'll have better luck with the next one.

My frogspawn opened up really quickly. Within a few hours of placement in tank.

LPS freak for many reasons.

One could of been light shock. Was your lights much brighter than the stores?

Another is salinity differences. What is your salinity and what is the stores?

Low levels of calcium is yet another reason.

Finally, If the temps differed greatly this will also happen.

Euphyllia can come back and recover from what I seen in your pics. It would take time though, about 6 months.

My old frog spawn did the same thing when my heater stuck on and temps got high. Mine didn't pull thru. The new frogspawn I got is doing great and seems to open up larger with more flow on it, even though they say they don't like high flow. Just watch the placement in your tank so it doesn't rub against the rock work when it opens. The tissue tears easy if it rubs the rocks.

thanks guys,
my new shipment will be in tomorrow... hopefully it all works out.
i float my bags for about 15 min to equalize temps, then slowly replace the water in the bag with my tank water...about 1/3 of the bag water every 10min, then i put them in. i'll let everyone know how it goes.

I'd acclimate slower than that. Especially want to make sure the SG and pH match.
