well, as some of you know, I attempted to introduce an oscar into my 75

he seems to be getting pale and may be showing signs of ich

upon observation, I have not seen any evidence of the jack dempsey pushing him around, HOWEVER at feeding time he is usually not given the opportunity to get food

I am wondering

if I take him out and put him in a 10g tank where I can treat him for ich, and then keep him in there for a few months until he's teh same size as teh dempsey and then REINTRODUCE him to the tank, will that be ok?

How big is the Oscar? If it's more than a coupleof inches...it isn't going to do too well in a 10G for a few months.

Youmay want to put it in the 10g for a coupleof weeks to treat the ich......let it recuperate.......if the fish isn't too big.

If it's a baby.....you can provide some hiding places in the tank that the Oscar can get into.....but not the JD. Will at least give the Oscar a chance to catch it's breath!
You can use PVC pipe.....etc.

the oscar is only 1.25" and the jack is about 3"

I'll try to add more hiding places, the oscar stayed towards teh top of the tank mostly...

At 1.5 inches, put him in the 10G. At 3 inches put him in the big tank. :)

I will isolate the Oscar from the JD first. Remember, JD might end up picking on Oscar. At this size, he/she will not be able to defend for him/her self. Even with hiding place, well, you never know. My Oscar was cornered and killed.

I agreed with scott. Put the Oscar in that 10g until it gets a bit bigger.

well I caught the oscar and put him in a tank that I recently took down (it was a saltwater tank)

the tank was rinsed several times when it was taken down AND right before I put the fish into it

I took a whisper mini off of my other 10g saltwater tank and gave it a thorough rinse and put it on the tank

I then filled the 5.5g tank with 100% water from the 75 where the oscar had been

I then put the oscar into the 5.5g tank, after about 1 minute, he went CRAZY, and then began chasing his tail, he then died

I immediately took him out and put him back into the 75g where he floated and then began to swim again

after work, he had lost all of his colors and had began to float again, once he began to float upside down I put him to sleep

my question is: what in the hell caused my oscar to go insane and then begin swimmin gvery rapid tight circles? he MUST have been poisoned with something...I assure you there were no chemicals used to clean the tanks...I'm smarter than that

I will go to petco today and redeem my "refund" and try again

any help is appreciated

My severum did that once when I first introduced him in the 72g tank...housing with other severums and Blood parrots. He was swimming in circle and shaking constantly like he got a chill. At first I thought he has some nerve damage by water chemistry. I tested the water and everything...nothing wrong with the water. None of my other fish acted that way. After the severum lived in the tank a week...he calmed down and found a space for himself.

Your Oscar acting that way could cause by many things.
