I am looking to stock african cichlids (I am looking for some of the less aggressive types- but colorful) to put in a 60 gallon tank. My filtration is a 10 gallon sump system. I have plenty of rock work with caves. The substrate is a mixture of crushed coral, CaribSea cichlid sand, and some shells. Any suggestions on types and numbers.

Look into some tanganyikans. Less aggressive than mbunas, but still have an attitude. Their personalities are amazing. There are a lot of different kinds that work in a 60 gal...julies, calvus, shell dwellers to name a few. Take a look around cichlid-forums.com and check out their "cookie cutters" and fish profiles. The sample stockings aren't entirely all that great but they do give you some ideas...:)
