i was looking at both before and someone told me that jebo has some weird bulbs. and the downside of both is that they come with saltwater bulbs..

well it says for saltwater or freshwater.i would like to get a new light as the one i got is the light that came with my aquarium which isn't bright at all
are you going to have plants in there?
if anything you will need to switch out the actinic bulb and get a 6,700K.
You can always try ahsupply!!?

if you want to grow algae its great.
Fishy_Fun
01-28-2008, 9:46 PM
why do you say that?
Fishy_Fun
01-28-2008, 9:50 PM
well im looking at ah supply and it will cost around the same for one off there as it will to buy else where because i would need a hood.but with the hoods they supply you with how do you open it to feed your fish? How do you keep water from getting on the lights and ruining the wood?i have snails and if they can just crawl up into the lights i cant get it.And the ones you prop above the water say not to put a hood underneath them which i need again for snails
guessing mgamer means that 4.5wpg is plenty of light which might be perfect for plants but great for algae

130 over a 29 gal is going to cause you nothing but problems. look for a 65w set up that comes with a 6500k-10000k bulb or get a 55w bright kit from ahsupply.
fishy you can either get some glass from a glass shop and do a diy canopy or order a canopy for the 29 for around $13 from any of the popular fish sites.
I think 65w could be/would be better but it all depends on what kind of plants and how many you plan to have in it, if you will do co2 and if you will use ferts.

if you dont wish to go with the diy lighting then you can search the web for coralife aqualight 65w (http://store.seacorals.net/30co6aq65wsi.html)
this site had it @ $55 before have no idea why they raised the price.. Try searching bigals, they also had one for around $57 but i cant seem to find it, try calling them up im sure they probably still have them in stock.

1- feeding fish : the front part of the canopy is on a hinge and can swing open
2- water and lights and snails: you will need a glass canopy to prevent this

well i already have a hood it came with my kit.but it says you cant use a hood or canopy with it heres what it says
Carefully remove fixture from packaging. Remove acrylic splash lens and remove plastic lens protector and packaging material from around the lamps. Make sure the lamps are firmly inserted into the sockets. Replace acrylic lens. Plug the power cord(s) into GFCI outlets.
If you wish to use the automatic light features, plug the power cord(s) into timers before plugging into the outlet.
Apply the four rubber feet supplied to the underside of the fixture to elevate the fixture above the aquarium 0.75".
Do not place the fixture underneath a canopy or hood.

the reason they might be saying that is due to ventilation and overheating. If you make a canopy with some vent slots it should be fine. Or you can install a small fan.
btw which light is this info coming from??

if that light you prob just want a glass top and be done with it.
Bk718
01-28-2008, 11:38 PM
okay there are 2 types of canopys
1- Glass - consists of 2 pieces held together by a plastic hinge. The light you are looking at can be placed on top of this glass without a problem.
2- Box - A box canopy that goes on top of the tank, usually used for diy purposes to install own lighting. The light you are looking at would not need this box canopy.
Also before you actually go with that light look around there are a few places that sell that light for cheaper and there are other lights on the market which can provide the same amount of light and be easy on your pocket.

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=3781&Nty=1&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=All&pc=1&N=0&Ntt=canopy&Np=1
do you know of a good place to get the light for cheaper?or at least a brand name?Oh and by the way thanks so much for the help.
also i supposing i would have to use the feet even with the light im looking at?

depending on your type of tank (either aga/perfecto) you will need the different type of glass.
Heres that same light cheaper (http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS/ctl3684/cp18369/si1381728/cl0/currentusasatellite3065wattpowercompactfixturesing lestripwlunarlight). Plus order around friday-sunday and get $5 off.
But if you dont want to switch out the bulbs later on (since they do cost $15-25) you can get this unit (http://store.seacorals.net/30co6aq65wsi.html). (but this is only if you will be doing plants in the 29g you are building)

big als have had the 65w with a plant bulb. yes you can use the glass top.

01-28-2008, 11:59 PM
if you have aga then you will need this (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=3790&Nty=1&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=All&N=2004&Ntt=glass%20canopy&Np=1)
And if you plan on having it rather heavily planted go with the light that has the light required for the plants.

ok and one final question do i have to get the glass cut to accomadate the filter, heater ETC.
Bk718
01-29-2008, 12:03 AM
no the glass already comes fitted for a 29g, its actually shorter but you will need to cut the back strip that it comes with to give room for your heater/filter

np
When you get a light thats way different in wattage than your current one, careful with how long you have it on. Especially if you dont have that many plants + tons of light = possible algae bloom. So if you add plants try and add as many as you can at once.

cover the tank with mesh or glass so the snails can't get to the light.
