Hello,

I am just starting a 150 gallon freshwater tank. I have a Rena xp3 rated for 175 gallon tank and 2 CA-900 catilina internal bio filters rated at 30-50 gallon tanks each. I am wondering if this filtration will be sufficient. I have sand instead of gravel and I will have African cichlids in the tank. Please let me know any suggestions on filtration. Thanks!

It sounds like you will be fine. It really depends on fish load/type of fish and maintenance schedule.

I have limited experience with cannisters and no experience with HOB's.

Having said that I believe that the "break-over point" is approximately 100G for wet/dry.

Cut any filter rating in half, then calculate for the tank size and the bio-load.
