i am thinking of adding a 5.5g sump and fuge to my 10g. i would have to sit it directly behind the 10g because the 10 is on a lower shelf of my entertainment system and no room under it. i would drill two bulk heads at the top of the 10g one for the overflow and one for the return and two holes about midway down the 5.5g. and i was also trying to think of a way to possibly use a hob as my return and trying to get the intake reversed to pull water from the back tank and put it in the main tank. i would think it would be possible with a little brain power. so what are your thoughts. do you think it will work or is it a waist of time? thanks for any feedback.

If you could get the 5.5 a little higher than the 10 the you could just drill 1 hole in the 5.5 for the return and use a PH to feed the fuge and have it gravity feed back to the main system.

i could do just the oppisite couldn't i. have gravity feed the fuge and a PH to return to the main tank. i have two PH's in the main tank and i could take one out and put it into the fuge and return that way correct. it is only a 200gph PH but it is a small rise back to the main tank so it should be okay i would think. what do you think

That should work. Or you could make a small fuge out of acrylic and use a small fountain pump to return the water. Check out the one I made. Linky

Okay i have a new idea. i would have had to drill the tank with it set up so i don't like that idea. but here is a new one. what if i use a hob for my over flow. i would cut out the bottom so water would flow right through and not back to the tank and build a small sand to make the 5.5 gal the same height as the 10 gal. then i would just use a power head as a return and there would be no drilling needed. i think a pinguin 660 or 1140 would do the trick. i could just addapt a return hose to it. what do you think? will it work? i got the idea off a post on here in the fw diy. here is a drawing of proposed idea.
