So I've had my red cherry shrimp for about 6 months now. About 4 months ago I moved the shrimp into a tank of their own. Since then I've had 3 die, but the funny thing is they have all died in the same spot. In the corner of the tank I have a mound of java moss, and this is where I have found the dead ones. I see shrimp in the java moss all the time, so I don't think it is causing the deaths. Does anyone else notice this with their shrimp? Do you think they know they are going to die soon and go to the java moss for security or something?

Maybe. I have my cherries in my 5g in my sig with a softball of moss. And no deaths in the moss. I had 7 and the other 2 really disapered. Either the other cherries cleaned them up or the 5 ottos?

When one of mine dies I just leave it. The other shrimp will eat it. It's kind of gross to think about, but it's a jungle out there.

the current probably brought the shrimp there, or the other shrimp did.

I agree

I've picked 2 bodies out of moss and euthanized one that was spazzing out between bouts of extreme listlessness, so you may be onto something, or it could be coincidence as the mature shrimp seem to prefer moss to hardscape & substrate.

Java moss has nothing to do with shrimp mortality at all. Odds are there is a dead spot in the water movement in the aquarium causing dead shrimp to end in one spot!

I've seen shrimp on their last leg of life move towards and on to my java moss. I think they may be trying to get there before they die. It's happened numerous times in my tank.
