CO2 with a wet/dry filter?

Has anybody had success injecting CO2 at the same time as running a wet/dry filter?

I am thinking it might defeat the purpose because the CO2 will be released as the water gets stirred up by the overflow etc.

Anyway, just wondering if anybody thinks it is possible/practical. I already have the wet/dry so I would prefer not to have to buy a canister or two to take its place.
 
Although I'm sure some of the CO2 will be wasted, I've seen it done. Plumb the CO2 so it gets injected right at the inlet of the return pump. If the surface agitation in the display tank is minimal (until water goes down the overflow), you may be able to maintain a helpful CO2 level. Get a dropchecker to be certain.
 
Okay, thanks for the tip. I don't want to spend all the money on CO2 and then find out it won't work.
 
if you can seal the sump you won't lose much CO2.
most of the problem with CO2 in a sump is the co2 is gassed off as the water falls thru the bio chamber.
my bio chamber on mine is sealed..I use 20 oz CO2 and they last an average of 4-5 weeks per bottle. I use a drop checker and keep the level pretty high on the CO2.(mine turns off at night)
 
If you have high flow and good current in the tank, then you can remove the bioballs, add lava etc and/or a bag filter, ala Berlin style, as long as you keep that chamber sealed. I made an egg crate holder for the bag and removed the drip plate. Works great, I get excellent micron filtering now and more bio, I do not need the O2, that's what the plants are for.

Most of the CO2 is lost from the over flow also.
Make sure the fall is only 2-3" at most(makes it quieter also).
