I am looking for a place to learn more about freshwater fish varieties. I want to see photos of different fish and descriptions of them, including maximum size.
I am thinking ahead to a larger tank in the future and I wish to learn more about fish species and varieties.

There's a site that is a huge database on fish species. I wanna say fishbase.org, but I'm not sure off the top of my head.

Thanks, I'll poke around on some of the suggested sites.
I know there is so much info out there! I find it's a bit easier for a beginner to find places that have brief summaries of water requirements, size, food, temp etc. I'd like to start with the basics and get more detailed from there as I narrow things down. I know it's easy to go fish shopping and pick out the "neat looking one" only to find that I can't meet that fishes needs currently. I'm skeptical of fish store employee recommendations, having that fail me recently!

There is also a book called "TROPICAL FRESHWATER AQUARIUM FISH " and it has a picture of the fish and a brief summary of the water quality and food it should eat the care it needs its habits and other fish that its compatible with!

Thanks again for the book recommendation.
I think it would be great to stick a thread with this info. As a newbie, wanting to put the right fish in the proper environment, it is far better to do the research first.
It's too easy to go to the store and see neat fish (many at a very immature size) and buy them, only to learn later that the set up you have is all wrong!

I hear you, I am always looking for a site that tells me what fish goes with other tank mates. makes it easier and not have to bother you all so much LOL!
