Are there any plants that I can put into my 55G that would do fine with 30W of lighting? I have soft acidic water, if that makes any difference, and these would be my first real plants.
At the moment I don't plan to upgrade the lighting, but it will possibly be an option for the future depending on how any low light plants grow.
thanks.

^ *might* live w/ 30W - close call. If the bulbs are actinic (Marine glo & the like), replace 'em w/ plant friendly ones.

doubtful, my java fern wouldn't grow under 15w over a 20g, Although it was a 2800K bulb.

I might look at some costs of upgrading the lighting, I like the idea of having real plants (especially as an early indicator of the general health of the tank). At the moment its 2 flourescent tubes (not sure on the brand or anything).

30w should be fine as long as its 5500k or above.

Mine is a 30G tank, I have no idea what K rating the lights are.
Edit: If I am looking at the right bulbs online, they are 8000k.
