Are guppies too small to share a tank 330L with mollies and angels? I've had 4 guppies for about 3 months in tank with 10 mollies and 3 angels and they were doing good so far. Last week 2 of them disappeared. They were not ill. The water parameters are good and I haven't noticed anything different in behaviour from any fish. Are my mollies growing too big for guppies? Or is it the angels? They are about 7" tall and I have 3 of them. The remaining 2 guppies are still doing well with no sign of stress.

Guppies will very likely end up as Angel-snacks.

Depends on the sizes but most likely.

I'm surprised they lasted that long. A 7 inch angel will devour a guppy in seconds.

I have a wide variety of fish in my community tank. I had been told that if I let the other fish grow to a good size first and get the tank established; the Angels at a new small size will be very peaceful. This was very true, I have 3 angels with danios, gouramis and others, very well behaved.

But an Angel with small ones at their full size, they'll be food.

side question don't mean to derail the thread but while on the subject of large angels, How long does it take for an angel to get that big?

In a 30" deep tank @ 78F feeding beef heart recipe, frozen brine shrimp, etc in addition to flakes approximately 15 months.

With the above parameters angel fry will attain quarter size in approximately two months and will attain a size of 4" in approximately 10 months.

Depending on the strains, most angelfish become sexually matured by 7-9 months. Others will take a year or even later. Gold, zebra and marbled are usually the first to become sexually matured.:)

I did not think of strains.

My post was in reference to Black, Double Black and Koi.

Lupin:

My very limited experience indicates that sexual maturity can occur at 4" to 5" although growth continues??

The angels most likely will snack on any fish it can get in its mouth. that includes other livebearers besides guppies.

I've also got zebra danios in the same community and they are doing well. I think I'll add a couple of small water lettuce to the tank. I've got some already. The mollies and platys are way too big for the angels to eat. The angel can always 'peck' at them though.

My dad had small (3") angels, guppies, and tiger barbs in a tank. What a circus....the barbs chased/nipped the angels and the angels chased/nipped the guppies nonstop. Bad combo in my experience, everything but the barbs died.
