What kind of Gravel should I use for a 20G High Convict Tank? I've decided on NOT using the "African Rift Lake" Stuff, I was just wondering if I could use the regular gravel and if it was small enough for them to make a nest in.

I have switched to sand in all of my tanks, but I used to use regular lfs gravel in my convict tanks. I was always suprised at the size of gravel that they could pickup and move, so any size gravel that you find appealing will work. One thing that you may want to consider, if you are going to breed your cons for feeders as asked about in your other thread, you will find that the fry are harder to net or syphon out if the gravel is too large. The fry are able to really hide deep in larger gravel.

Thanks for that one...I fear I may have no choice however, I'll have to use regular gravel.
Oscar, since you seem to have experience, have you found that taking the fry away from the parents at 2 weeks, (and placing them in another tank,) and then feeding the fry to other fish at an age of 4 weeks works?

it depends on your parents, my con parents take great care of their young and dont eat them, I could keep them with the parents as long as I wanted until I take them out to feed the oscar and the jack
