I've got two Amazon Swords in 55 gal tank and I've had them for about three weeks now. Still no fish in the tank because I changed my mind at the last minute and decided to go with Cichlids instead of the standatd community fish, so I'm still cycling after having to change substrate (water was too soft). Anyway, the Amazon's are really cranking out the vines with "babies" on them and I was wondering what I'm suppose to them. Do I "clip" them and then replant the new ones or do they just grow wild like this? I'll appreicate any guidence from the viewers.
Thanks!

they will keep growing new runners, if you dont want it to spread like wild fire then just keep clipping the runners and throwing them out.. but if you want more swords then wait a while for the new runners to develop and then you can snip and replant

if you want to keep them leave them on there as long as you can. once at 3-5 inch is good to cut and replant. if you have too many there are always people looking for plants.

I had this happen a while back and waited for them to get some nice roots before clipping. Then I left one on the runner. It got to be pretty large. Probably 8 inch leaves. When I clipped that one it was very full and lush. It's my second best Amazon besides the monster that fills the entire left 14 inches of the 55 gallon in my avatar.

A bigger shot is my entry in the TOTM contest. It's the first pic

I noticed that swords with runners grew slower than those without, I had several swords in my 6' tank and the largest sword never spat out runners untill it had leaves that broke through the surface of the water, it was at least twice the size of the other swords that spat out runners all the time.
