Hi Friends !

I have these 4 Blue Moorii's (also called Blue Dolphins) which are about 5" - 6" now.

I'm planning to shift them to a new 4 Feet tank, as i want them to breed. I desperately need some help and guidance regarding this. Kindly guide me friends...

1. How do I find which of these are Males and Females ? I can almost see NO difference between the 4...

2. Should I just transfer all the 4 Fish to the new tank ?

I sometimes see 2 of the Fishes Circling each other continously, right in the middle of the tank, with their mouths wide open and as if they're almost ready to kill each other - is this Fighting or a Mating act ?

Also I see that only one of the Blue Dolphins always stays in the Middle of the Tank, Is this the dominating or alpha male ? The others just stay each at a different corner, almost like hidden from each other.

Kindly guide me a little friends...
Thanks !
Kush

At that size, one gender indicator is the tips of the dorsal and anal fins of the males will extend past the base of the caudal fin while the same fins of the females stop right at the base. As the males get more mature and larger in size, they'll also develop a larger nuchal hump.

The circling and challenging activity you're seeing could be an attempt to spawn or a display of dominance. I have all female c. moorii's (six of them) and the largest females do that on a nightly basis, so that activity isn't gender specific.

I'd transfer them all in the larger tank. If possible post some pics of them, with clear shots of the dorsal, anal and caudal fins.
