Is anyone doing lunar lighting.....

I see on F&S website that they sell "lunar lights" in three diffferent colors.....

It would be nice to see my nocturnal catfish if possible.

Its tottaly up to you. Alot of people make there own. and alot of people like em. I dont have any yet. But I love em.

what lights does one use to do this with? I have extra strips, so just buying a blue flourecent bulb would work?

my light has 2 built in blue LEDs to give the moon light look. It looks awesome at night the way the it shimmers through the water. The fish also seem to like it my Iridescent shark all ways comes out from where ever he hanging out when i put the LEDs on. Its a great feature if you got more night or deep water fish.

I have extra light strips !can you direct me to the bulb to buy for this set up? I have a 20 gallon strip light. :) 24 inches I believe.

Folks:

The various information set forth in the literature varies significantly with respect to the benefits or detriments of night time lighting as well as to the most beneficial color of light (ie. white, blue, red, green, etc).

I will relate my experience which may be of some benefit.

When I purchased PC lighting the fixtures had "moonlights".

The moonlights did not function.

For my daytime lighting I placed one 10000K bulb and one 7100K in each of the two fixtures which I had purchased but did not try the 7100K at night as I did not know it's effect.

When I added MH lighting I purchased a fixture which had blue and white moonlights

First night I tried out the moonlights and serious joy.

Several weeks later I also tried out leaving the moonlights on but also leaving on the two 7100K bulbs with virtually no observable difference.

The moonlights and bulbs did not seem to bother the fish but may have been helping the plants (this is very qualitative and I do not know this for certain).

I have 2 of the LED Marina LED kits and the LED HUB. 55 gallon was too long to have just one. The fish seem to gather near it at night time and it allows me to see them as well. Plus they are a heck of a whole lot cheaper than the light hoods, 15-20 bucks. Each hub will control up to three lights. For a tank of your size I would start with the one hub and continue onto two. They are completely sub-mergible as well.
