well i got my green shrimp about 3 weeks ago and finally one of the females is carrying eggs, a couple days ago she looked like she had like 20 or more and today only about 5 left. Wondering if she ''gave birth'' already (seems a little soon) or did she lose them does that happend ? can see anything in the tank that could be babies. I watched her for a while today and it almost looks like she takes one out and cleans it and then put it back with the others, is this normal. My para are NO2=0, NO3=5, NH3=0, PH=7.5,
Does anyone have info on this
thanks

i was gonna ask the same thing, are these green shrimp the "dark green" caridina sp.? They are usually pretty hardy and considered prolific and easy breeders. All your stats for the tank look like they are in the correct ranges. They do "turn" the eggs frequently. I have heard of them "dropping" or discarding the eggs. Normally i notice my females go from berried to empty, i have never noticed anything in between. That being said, the babies can be so tiny its hard to find them but they are usually in dense plants or on the sides of the glass IME. Do you know how long she has been carrying the eggs?

typically what you will see sold is caridina sp. which would be able to be kept with your cherries. Where did you get them?

well i got them at big al's which is the only place around here (montreal, quebec) that actually have staff that know what they are talking about, the guy that helped me was studying to be a marine biologist :)
so you think they are caridina sp, and how do you tell the difference.
one of my green shrimp will actually change colors sometimes and become almost all red, So this means i can put them back in with the cherries with no chances of cross breading?
And for the mama this happends that they discard they're eggs, i only noticed about 4-5 days ago that she had eggs, they are VERY shy compared to my cherries, always hiding
thanks for the help

Baby Dark Green Shrimp have a red coloration for about a week after birth. They will grow rapidly and show their green coloration after that first week
I am not really sure how to tell them apart TBH. I know that the caridina are commonly sold under the name "dark green" or "green" shrimp and have been around for awhile. Green neocaridina are pretty new and hard to find. I would "assume" they would be caridina sp. You could try posting over at www.planetinverts.com (http://www.planetinverts.com) and see if Ryan can id them for you. If they are caridina, they could be kept with the cherries. I did find the quoted info about the babies which i thought was interesting. As for the eggs, normally it takes a couple weeks for them to be "born" so i would imagine she dropped them.

the background is coral. things will look so much better with a solid black or blue background.
