Just for ease, I'm thinking of setting a spare 10 gallon I have in the area next to the sump but it won't actually be connected to the main tank. I'll have a little filter on it for flow and put a live rock or two from the main tank in it along with a bunch of stuff I'm going to order from IPSF to start a refugium. Then, I could just take out a sprig of macro-algae and shake it into the main tank ever so often, right?
What do you think of this?

The main purpose of a fuge is to use as a veggie filter to keep nitrate down. 2nd is to breed pods for the tank. I have a 20g fuge next to my tank but it is plumbed to the main system.

Setup in this way, it will not act like a refugium per say...A refugium works by having the display tanks water flowing through it. Nutrients are exported as the water goes throught the refugium, and food (pods) are taken back to the display via return...Yes, you setup it up this way as a simple pod culturing system...
