here is the list petsmart has. please help me in picking out the right tank mates!!!

for corys they have
peppered
albino
green
and spotted... for 55 gallon tank and for 10 and 29 gallon tank....

pleco is called a rubber lipped

tell me what you think, and where they need to go. thanks !! oh and 2 male firemouths in the fifty 5 gallon tank will be going to someone else .

Green cories do get big(3"-5"), the others do stay a little smaller. My question is about the firemouths, I has been said that cichlid do not go well with cories, they seem to attack the soft parts (eyes, fins). But with all that said i have julli corys with my yellow lab cichlid. i just made sure mine where not mouth size and lots of hiding and feeding at dark. Good luck Zach

I bought 2 rubber lip pleco's at the same time and they both died with in a week

Not sure why they did

maybe just the water conditions at that one location ...
Can't say for sure ...

most likely others didn't have that happen to them ...

corys will not be going into my 29 or my 55 gallon tanks, just the pleco, I was going to put the small cories in the 10 gallon.

I can't find my external hard drive at the moment ...

BUT ... those that can't keep cichlids with a Cory are the SAME ONES who want to feed their fish every 2 or 3 days ... because they don't want all the fish poop!

I had two 6 - 7 inch Oscar's (a RED and a Lutino) with my albino Cory at the same time I had about a 3 inch Flower Horn in the same tank ...

Yeah - I got ripped a new one because my Cory was going to get eaten

The SAME Cory that is the fish I have had longer than ANY OTHER fish I currently own

It is (right now) in with about a 3 inch Cuban cichlid and a Midas that is pretty well over 12 inch long ...

You tell me ...

Can you keep a Cory with a cichlid?

and just for refference ... I have over 500 gallons of water in my livingroom!

your cichlids may not be interested in eating cories, but in general large new world cichlids have been known to try and eat them, resulting in either the death of the cory or the death of both fish since the larger fish can choke on a half-swallowed cory. you're taking your chances, but it's up to you. the smaller oscars, fh, and cubans do not pose a threat, the big midas might.

as far as "no cories with cichlids" that's a huge misunderstanding. there are hundreds if not thousands of types of cichlids, and they can not all be lumped together. a peaceful keyhole cichlid is a lot different than a managuense or a mbuna.

as far as the OP's original query, do not get the green cories if they are brochis splendens (the latin name will be on the info card). brochis are not the same as corydoras - while they look similar they get much bigger and should not be kept in a 10g tank. no matter which ones you get, only 3-4 in a 10g.

Is this green cory a Bronchis splendens actually? Because I had the impression and cories differ from bronchis. Bronchis do get larger than most corydoras at 3 inches and above. They have more dorsal fin rays compared to the cories.
