Filter cleaning

How often to you clean your filter (specifically HOB's)? I am talking about major cleaning, taking it apart, cleaning out the gunk, even cleaning the impellers? I have an Emperor 400 and an Aquaclear 110.

maybe every 2-3 months. you should do it more often if you notice that they are getting slow.
however, i clean out the intake tubes 1-2 times a month.

once a month!..pipes,propeller,hoses,(for those canister people)intake,..check heaters for cracks,A/C power wiring for units,air tubes(if u have them)

Before I changed to a canister filter, I did it once a month.

i clean my canister once a month, sumps once a month, hob,s twice a month

I do it when they won't start up again after a water change! Works out to every couple of months for the smaller ones and less often for the bigger ones.

If flow weakens, then I clean my filter. If filter media appears getting worn off, I replace them.
