I like the idea of PVC, can you paint that and will it stay painted? how does one keep it down? ( fill it some with gravel)

if you want black pvc like stuff, then go to your local hardware store and get pvc joints and pvc pipe fittings. they are rubber, not pvc, and they come in black. they are pricy though, about 3-5 dollars a peice depending on size of the fitting. i also have this that i am finishing building right now and im going to drop it in my tank once the silicone is done curing in a day and a half.

I was thinking black with moss or a plant tied to it.

home depot, iron rockside something (checked online safe for aquariums, and it is a non ferrous metal) and a 1.5 - 2 sq. foot piece costed me 10 dollars plus tax, a tube of silicone for glass aquariums and a hammer and a broom for the hundreds of small pieces, and some 80 grit sandpaper. i am going to putting a hot-to for it in a few days once it is in the tank. it will have pics too if you want to wait. it is a hurry up and wait project for the silicone to fully cure before you stick it in the tank.

You can paint regular, white PVC with Krylon Fusion spray paint. It bonds really well to plastic, and I'm pretty sure it's OK in an aquarium once it's fully cured. You don't have to weigh down the PVC, either, it will sink on its own.

Use ABS pipe it is cheap and it is already black, there is a debate on weater or not it is safe for water but i have it in every one of my tanks for a few months and no problem at all

I just have no talent for decorating, they always look like a mess.
