I turned off all the pumps yesterday night to take some shots of the corals from above. I forgot to turn them back on and... I woke up to a real problem. The first thing I noticed was a lot of dead bugs, starfish and worms on the bottom.

Then my female breeding clarkii was upside down in a corner. After realizing she was still 'breathing', I searched for the other fish. Dead 1.5 year old Yellow Tang and my prize 8 year old + Hippo. Kills me to think because of not paying attention, I killed these guys.

The corals seemed to be just fine so I figure I got the carcasses out before they turned the water. A buddy came over with some fresh saltwater and we did an emergency heat and change.

The Female Clarkii is doing better, but won't eat. Just stays by the cleaner shrimp (also came back from the dead) and gets massaged by the shrimp. Nice to see in better circumstances.

Just had to tell you guys,
Tom

Oh no!!! I'm so very sorry Tom. You are going to beat yourself up a bit but please hear that I find you to be a really caring fishkeeper and this was just an honest mistake.

I agree wholeheartedly. It's never easy to lose something under your care under any circumstance.

I agree Tom.. Honest mistakes are honest mistakes. I am very sorry for your losses and hope it doesn't dishearten you.. Its not like you did it on purpose. I know that you do tons of research about your pets and I hope that you continue in the hobby..

Peace - - Mark

Reading this sent shivers and goosebumps all over my body.... How horrible! Let us know how it pans out, wish you the best of luck.

Oh, ow! I'm so sorry to read that. I dread making a mistake that kills or hurts one of my pets. I hope the sick feeling passes soon.

Tom, I am truly sorry that this happened to you, I think Grins put it best. I just lost mine and my daugters favorite fish a couple weeks ago, it was a parrot that I've had for over three years. I can relate how you feel somewhat. My heart dropped when my daughter Romey started calling at the tank for "Princess", and I had to tell her she died, she cried for a long time, very unusual for her, she is my tough one. She still says almost daily about missing her fish. I kind of figured death was emminent for her, she didn't seem like herself for a couple days before she died. Sorrry, this isn't about me, just kind of know how bad you feel. Not trying to push you past grieving, but maybe one bad side to this adventure(hobby) is that barring total crash of the system, it's "Boots on soldier". Chin up and get back at it, try not to make the same mistake(I know you know this and not at all trying to be anything but sincere), we all can make them. Good luck Tom.
Matt
