i have a couple questions i need answered.

first i am needing to know how to raise my PH in tank as its about 6.2 not good for snails.I have tested the tap and its about 6.4.How can i raise it?i have heard of using baking soda and I was going to order crushed coral for a buffer and to raise but how fast will it work?the shells seem to be eroding pretty bad. Also one of my brigs has a bump in his antenna is this something to worry about?lastly the temp of my tank for some reason got to around 84 and i don't know for how long. Will it have ill effects on my brigs?i think the reason my heat was so high was the tank was evaporating(prob a gallon) and i hadn't topped off.

first i am needing to know how to raise my PH in tank as its about 6.2 not good for snails.I have tested the tap and its about 6.4.How can i raise it?i have heard of using baking soda and I was going to order crushed coral for a buffer and to raise but how fast will it work? The baking soda will work immediately, crushed coral is a better long term solution. I use homemade vacation feeders to buffer the hardness, supplement calcium, and feed. the shells seem to be eroding pretty bad. As long as the holes are not going through the shell and leaving the snail susceptible to infection this is an aesthetic issue as long as you address teh underlying cause as you are trying to. Also one of my brigs has a bump in his antenna is this something to worry about? Iread a thread about this at www.applesnail.net (http://www.applesnail.net) where their were snails effected similarly and they ended up passing on. the cyst would rupture and the snail became inactive. This being said, one of my purples developed a bump on his antennae several months ago and has been fine. lastly the temp of my tank for some reason got to around 84 and i don't know for how long. Will it have ill effects on my brigs? You may notice a growth ring in the shell from the temp spike. As long as the tank is at a better temp now it should be ok. Keep an eye on the temp, the higher the temperature the shorter the life span, the quicker the metabolism, and the faster the shell growth. Since you are having issues with your water quality, a lower temp would be better.i think the reason my heat was so high was the tank was evaporating(prob a gallon) and i hadn't topped off.

Answers in bold. hope this helps
