River Tank Ecosystem, 10 gal Opinion?

That looks insanely overpriced for what you get. I know the backgrounds are similar, but you could manage something very similar on your own if you're handy, with some silicone and some acrylic from home depot. The other issue is that, you've got a 10gal tank with only about 4-5gal of water in it, which is going to seriously limit what you can keep in there as far as stocking levels go. I'd rather get a 20long or a 30gal and do the same thing to get some extra real estate.

Yeah, thats true... gotta convice the fiance about the 20-30 gal lol... and I am not handy... at all... so it would be one hell of a project lol

I wouldn't waste my money on it. That seems WAAAAAAAY over priced like sploke said.

Notice they DON'T show the strip light in the photo that's in the decription? Bet you might not want that hanging from your ceiling.

Tanks that are only partially filled will collect mineral deposits at the waterline. Something to consider maintanance wise.

I've seen other systems over the years that look better than this one. Keep looking around.

eco system style tanks are pretty nice.

but that one is over priced.

there may be some info in the DIY section on backgrounds(3D).. it would be easy to build something like that..

What the others said. This looks like it is some kind of kit marketed to teachers for classroom use that don't want to set something up themselves and that they can bill to the DoE. Plus the fish selection sounds sketchy at best. Here is their "Animal Selection" package:

A varied selection of fish and other animals suitable for the original River Tank™ Ecosystems. Included are our choice of several schooling fish (e.g., tiger barbs, zebra fish), a scavenger fish (e.g., Chinese algae eater), snails, and one of the following 2 animals: dwarf frog or ghost shrimp. Each set has an appropriate number of organisms for starting a new tank. Scavengers need to be fed the first 6 to 8 weeks.

And their "plant selection"

An attractive selection of hardy aquatic and terrestrial plants selected for the original River TankTM Ecosystems.
