Types of rocks and wood and how to plant.

Any particular kind of rocks i should look for? Drift wood or Bog wood better? And when I actually buy the plants how do I physically plant them. IE for the moss on the rocks or ferns in the sand etc.
 
For moss on rocks, you can get whats called a mess net for using in your filters with crabon, but cut the netting to fit around the rock or wood, cut a couple holes in the netting, and wrap the moss under it to the rock or wood. As the moss grows, it'll grow out of the netting and cover it, this will attach it to the rock or wood.
