View Full Version : How many Cories would be suitable...
in a 33 gallon long tank? I already have 2 Bronze and I would like to get some Albino cories later today but don't want to have too many. The tank is filled with little caves and stuff to hide under.
Thanks for your time

Only five total? What else is in there?
I'd recommend up to 15 Albinos if you have the money and filtration and have no other bottom-dwellers!

If you can find them, get some Sterbeys. I think they're the most striking of all the Corys. I just lost two, along with albinos, Schwartzis and Peppereds, when my entire tank died.
The great thing about cories is that they are very happy if you mix them. So get a whole bunch of them and get different varities. Mine all do well together, I even occasionally find them sleeping all curled up together. Very cute.

That is cute! Mine do it, too. I thought they were just weird - glad to know it's normal! :D In fact, because of the way the trilineatus and the spotted stick together, I've named them Forrest and Jenny (best friend's suggestion!). I've only had them for a few days, but I haven't seen them more than 2 inches apart since I put them in the tank.
I have read (and found) that cories will dislay more normal behaviour when in same species groups - as large as you can comfortably fit in the tank.
i had 2 aeneus, 1 paleatus and 1 trilineatus who seemed 'happy' enough - until I had to remove the 2 aeneus as they were the focus of aggression from tankmates.
Now I have 4 trilineatus and 2 paleatus and am going to increase each group to a minimum of 6 when space and a new QT tank permit.
Their grouping behaviour has definitely changed as i added more of each species. the paleatus used to hide much more before having a con-specific tankmate and the trilineatus always stay in a group of 4 now (well, mostly).
IMO they look and act better in same species groups.
Anyone else have an opinion on this?
Edit: forgot to say, with regard to the original question I'm with Childawg - get as many as can comfortably fit.
