When I first set my tank up, my heater was defective. As a result my tank has been running empty for about 4 to 5 weeks non-cycled. It is a minibow 2.5 and the current temp is 80 degrees. I tested my water last week and the results are as follow: PH=7.6, Ammonia=.25ppm, Nitrite=0, and Nitrate=10ppm. As seen the Ammonia is a bit high and the Nitrate a bit low. The gentleman at the LFS suggested throwing in some fish food and testing the water in 2 weeks to complete the cycle. The question is how often do I need to add the food? Do you handle it as you would using pure ammonia in a true fishless cycle? Any suggestion or comments appreciated. P.S I use Amquel plus as my water conditioner.

Thanks

Mgamer2000,
Thanks for the reply. I will keep testing and adding food as necessary. It would have been better to just use ammonia. The reason for the bit of ammonia is because a spider had fallen into the tank. Don't ask. I'm not sure how it happen. It just did. Again thanks.
