Between Eheim, Rena, Fluval and Marineland C series you are sure to find a good canister filter. Don't pay any attention to the fanboys and fangirls of whichever brand they have decided to suck up to. Truth is there are pros and cons to all four of these lines to a point where at the end of the day it makes no real damned difference which you choose. I've been more than happy with the three that I have used (Rena, Fluval, Eheim) and I am likely to purchase a Marineland C very soon.

As far as known reliability, Eheim is famous for it.

As far as bang for the buck and media space, Rena has the advantage.

As far as general ease of use and availability, Fluval is good.

As far as efficiency and cleaning ability, think about a Marineland C.

When it comes to high prices and limited media space, Eheim classics are notorious.

When it comes to being noisy and having hideous bright blue inlet tubes, Rena takes the cake.

When it comes to durability issues, Fluval fails often.

When it comes to leaks, Marineland C is getting a reputation.

Hope this helps.

Yep. Glad my Renas aren't in my bedroom. And still angry at them for making those ridiculous inlet tubes. How do you design such a great filter and offer it at such a great price yet neglect to understand that black is the about the only truly acceptable color for anything that enters a tank. Especially when they were smart enough to redesign their heaters in that color.
