Hi all. Well, good news! I just got everything in the mail to FINALLY start my tank. W00.

Question: I have a 20 gl long tank, and I just purchased a 20 lb bag of eco complete. Should I have gotten TWO 20 lb bags?

Can I still use the one 20lb and top the tank off with some kind of beautiful sand or other pleasing substrate? I don't really want gravel ( I love the "soil" look of eco) but at at same time, If I could get away with NOT buying another bag and covering the top with something cool, that would be excellent.

Is there anything I can mix with eco to fill it to the necc. level of a 20 gl.?

maybe 20lbs is enough???

Any help would be appreciated, as I'm gonna start tank set-up this week!!

THANKS!

I think that should be deep enough.

Sorry you need at least one more bag. a 20lbs bag may give you just about 1inch layer You can get fluorite and put eco on top or there is a aquatic soil sold at home depot that is also good that you could put under the eco.

cool, thank you!

Is it advisable to get black sand and cover the eco with a thin layer of black sand?
Would that hurt the eco and plants in any way?

the sand will not stay on top of the eco.

it will eventually sift to the bottom.. then you will have sand on the bottom and eco on top.
