For what purpose? Aeration? CO2 delivery?

The limewood airstones are usually used for pressurized CO2, as far as I know. I've never tried one for a regular air pump. I always used the standard blue or green airstones, or the bubble tubes.

I use the wood for DIY co2. Works better than the plastic airstones; at providing smaller bubbles and then slower speeds to the top.

most tanks dont need air stones.

i would go with wooden airstone, for co2 or just oxygen, the regular airstones are very brittle and had a few crumble on me a few times..

Thats true, but some people like the way it looks.

When it comes down to woddblocks and airstones, I'd go for the latter. The wood ones get clogged easily, at least when i used them.

yes im agree with you most airstone will crumble as time passes. not sure about wood tho.

this is for oxygen when i get power off i can use my back up battery power pump.

how about those Flexible Bubble Wands?

I was so happy when i got a 12" airstone and made a bubble wall, fish loved it.. but during a tank cleaning i wanted to move it and it broke in half, the dumb fish went after the pieces but i was able to clean it out pretty good.. what a waste

The bubble wands, i guess good for a person who likes the look of bubbles in his/her tank.. but a cheap mans way of making a bubble wand is just poking a few holes in a regular airline tubing, plugging the other end, shape how ever you like it..
