I have mistakenly put Kordon's AmQuel in my tank! So testing the water every day was showing me that I wasn't fixing my ammonia problem, it was actually getting worse!
Then, last night I read on the net that Amquel will give you a "false" ammonia reading. The problem now is, that my boys look like they're swimming in deluted milk! I also now feel like quite the newbie, so, I'm doing 10% water changes every 48hrs, luckily my tap water pours out **** near ready for fish, but I let it airiate<---? for 48hrs anyway. The boys are doing fine they're not stressed they still eat, but the waterlooks like it's ready for some Fruit Loops.

Buy some dechlorinator like Stress Coat and do a 50% water change. There is no reason to really let it sit if you are adding dechlorinator to it.

Are you adding something you haven't mentioned? Something to adjust the pH perhaps?

"Milky" sounds more like a precipitate than like abacterial or protozoan bloom.

No, I've read that you really shouldn't mess w/the ph. The day I filled it w/water (3 months ago) I put 3tsp of Slime Coat in it, and nothing else, not even any water clearing drops! I swear! The tank has always been like looking through air. If it did start to fluctuate I'd just do some small water changes maybe!
Thanks for the reply tho wetmanNY ph (of course) didn't even occur to me, Makes good sense tho.
BTW, The ph in my tank is a SOLID 7.6
It's 29.8 gallon, w/a Penguin 330 filter w/2 media baskets inside, one side has Aqua-Pure high density carbon, the other basket has Aqua-Pure Zeolite granules.
Again, thx for the replies, and I'll let ya know how it's goin'

Cheers!!!

Well, yesterday (Sat.) I had to work a double, so @ 10:00am I checked on and fed the fish I was slightly encouraged when I saw that the water was clearing a little, but not too much. So, after 18hrs of bartending (tiring, but, bling bling) I walk over to the tank and hit the manuel switch on my timer, and lo and behold, the tank is right back to crystal clear!!!! I was so releaved that I was jumping around the living room hooting like an idiot!!! Woke up the wife and the dog. Anyway the tank is back to normal again.
But, now I have a couple more questions. Does this happen to everyone who uses AmQuel? The bottle of AmQuel I have is for "Fresh and Saltwater", should I look for a ammonia remover for just freshwater or doesn't it make a difference? Hmmm, time to do more reading I suppose. I also just did a GH and KH test. My GH is 8%dkh/100-200ppm, and my KH is 6%dkh/50-100ppm.
Oh, wetmanNY, it turns out that my 2 Ryukin Calico Veiltails like their Jack Daniels same has I do, w/Coke and ice. The 2 Red and White Ryukin Fantails like theirs straight up!! (They are a hardy fish 'ey?) But the 2 Black Moore Fantails like to drink Dewars and Diet w/a twist of lemon!! ;)
wetmanNY thx loads for your reply!!!! If your ever in Naples Fla, I'm buyin'!!

Cheers!!!

Sounds much more like a case of a short term algae bloom. If you have chlorimine and chlorine in your water and you do a large water change, the amquel can release (and de-toxify) ammonia resulting in said algae bloom. Harmless.
good luck
:)
