I have just setup a planted tank. Its a 11g acrylic. I have a 2in sand bed with flourite, Hagen CO2 sytem, Marineland 125 filter and 3 rainbow fish.

I have a 20w power compact daylight bulb (standard socket) in the hood and feel it is not adequate. Any suggestions? The hood has a low clearance so I can't get over creative without heating up the tank.

I like the set-up, especially your wood piece. I agree that you can use a bit more growth though. I don't have any good ideas for lighting, but you might want to try www.ahsupply.com if you haven't already. Everyone gets their retro kits from there, it's the norm :) Your tank size/ dimensions are a little funny, but you might be able to work something out. Get a an elecrically/ mechanically inclined relative/friend to help, they're very valuable. Good luck
