Former Enthusiast turned newbie

I recently came across a small 10 gallon tank and I wanted to set it up for my kids. I used to have a 27 gallon Hex, 55 Gallon tall and a 75 gallon standard all running at the same time. I broke them all down about 5 to 7 years ago and got rid of everything but the 75, which may get set up in the near future.

I figured I would check in on my old hobby to see what's new, and it seems there are a lot of things different now. Never heard of cycling, I was from the old school and we set 'em up and waited about a week and made sure the ph was OK and the fish went in.

So for this new tank I was looking at filters and I probably was over thinking it, but wanted to see what's going on in the world of filtration and found this site.

It seems I need to spend some time this evening, doing a little research and head back to my old stomping grounds and see if any of the people I used to deal with are still there.

I was at the LFS today and it has changed a lot since my last visit. the 10 gallon got set up today and my girls are really excited about picking out fish when the tank is ready.

I definitely see my 75 coming out of retirement in 2008.
