good day people, I hope you guys can help out here... I bought a foxface lo about two weeks ago, put him in my qt and he did good the first week nice color, very active... for some reason now he wont swim, he spends all day in one place and his color is no longer yellow but brown as if he were stressed, when i feed them he's the only one not eating. there are three other fish in the qt now and all are great except him. what could be the problem? I am feeding them flakes and the foxface was eating fine at first but not anymore... im really starting to worry here... any help would be gladly appreciated. :help:

Hi Don. Poor guy! I love foxfaces. I don't have one yet, but have been looking at them longingly at the lps. They have two now, but one is white (I thought that was their stress color), and the other doesnt move much, just lets himself be stuck to the overflow grate in the tank.
It's hard to tell what might be wrong from your description. Are there any other visible symptoms? Have you checked your water parameters? What have you been feeding him? A couple suggestions if you don't have them already - make sure you have lots of hiding spots. Also offer some nori in there if you haven't already, they love their greens! What other fish are you QTing, and how large is your qt?

Foxfaces are pretty tough fish, my foxface lo ended up covered in ich and didn't eat for 2 days, he was also the only fish to make it out alive (still have him 4 yrs later) I fed him frozen mysis and spirula enriched brine soaked in garlic guard. I also fed him nori soaked in garlic guard. You might also be able to get capulara algae from a lfs (I would try this first). I buy a bag every once in a while and my foxface will eat until he can hardly swim. I would look at aggression depending on what other fish you have (although mine has been temporarily bullied by three diffenent tangs and in the end he still lives and they all ended up floating with red spots on thier sides, needless to say I do not even attempt tangs anymore). My magnificent fox (see avatar) was put into his new home and it took him all of five minutes to start working over the macroalgae I put in there for him. On the down side I have heard that some do really well when first introduced, then for no reason kinda fade off. Hopefully he will kick out, they are really great fish once they get acclimated.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. When I bought my first foxface I put it in the tank and the next day it was gone, the carpet anemone was twice its normal size. A few minutes later it released what was left of my poor foxface. The carpet ended up back at the pet store and I will not get another (it also ate my horseshoe crab).
