I am thinking of adding angelfish to my 55 gallon as the "centerpiece" to a community tank.
Do angels do fine alone? Or would a pair be better? I have heard that sometimes two may not get along depending on what gender you end up with.

So basically, my question is "One or two?"

Angels are fine being kept alone. If a couple, then you must make sure the other is not constantly harassed otherwise raise a small group and let them pair off and you can rehome the rest. Furthermore, there is no way you can determine their sexes unless what you have is a breeding pair.

If you are not into the possibility of a pair, just get the one.

Just make sure the angel isn't large enough to eat your rasboras. They are predatory fish, and their mouths will open much larger than you would think just from looking at them. Even if it's not an issue now the angel will grow, and you may have problems trying to add small fish later.
