DIY Funnel Type Egg Tumbler

Hey everyone,

I am busy trying to build a funnel type egg tumbler. I think I have got all the basics right. I will upload a pic tomorrow. I was just wondering if anyone has used one or made on or even just seen one in action. I came across some instructions online and they suggested putting a mesh at the bottom of the funnel where the water comes in. Is this essential?

Also, what could I use to test out the system? hehe. Would be nice to see if it works before I get eggs again so that I don't have to rush tweak once I am ready to use it :)

oh, I've seen one of these on her before. The person used a cola bottle instead of a funnel.

Seems to work OK. I tried it out and the flow seems to be very adjustable from pretty strong down to almost nothing. The pump does struggle a little when the flow is restricted a lot, which I guess is a bad thing. I should probably put a T in there somewhere and have another tap. Don't want the pump burning out in the middle of the night and all my eggs settling ontop of one another. Do fishtank pumps suffer from back-pressure problems? It has one of those magnetically driven impellers.

Let's hope I can get it tweaked nicely and that it works when I finally need it :)

Oh, forgot to mention, there is a screen over the inlet at the base of the "funnel" as well as over the outlet at the top of the funnel.

Iv'e been trying to successfully tumble Aulonocara sp. Maleri "Maleri Island" eggs for longer than I care to admit and think I finally came up with a system that will not only work, but will tumble "hundreds" of eggs divided between four containers. I thought I had come up with a good idea a couple of times using an airstone suspended part way down a portion of tube(that comes with undergravel filters) attached to anoter piece of tube with mesh on both ends. My attempts seemed promising at first, but the mesh would plug up with small particles and slow the uptake of water causing the eggs to get fungus and die. I'm thinking a bigger mesh would work, but I decided to try a system with water flow that isn't brought about by an air pump. Plus my creative Gemini mind wanted to cook up something with a lot more ROOM as I have 17 females with 2 males.
