This long trip is finally over---My tank has cycled!!! :) Nitrites 0, Nitrates 20, and my problem areas of PH---was so low that it was not even on the chart, is now at 6.2, and ammonia---this is 1.0 out of the tap, but it is now at 0 in the tank! Yay!!! Okay this is pretty lame cuz I don't have a problem, I just wanted to brag! It's been a long 2 months.
Actually I do have a question. I intended to keep this little tropical fish only, but a freind has some jewel cichlid babies. I only have 2 danios at the moment...would it be okay to add a little cichlid? (I know the answer here, just need to be talked out of it) It's a 29 gal tank. Thanks for reading!

Congrats on the cycle. Personally I would be concerned about mixing zebra danios with the jewel cichlids. The jewels can get awfully big and might consider the zebras as food.

So glad it's cycled! Mine is finally cycled as well and my daughter wanted guppies, so we got guppies! (all males!)
It's a long process but worth it to do it right!

Congrats and well worth all the time and effort once you slowly add your fish you will have a beautiful tank to enjoy. Please post pics.
yes I'd say you can have a Jewel Cichlid in there. Although they are omnivorous I don't think they generally predate smaller fish, and zebra danios are probably nippy enough to keep away.

Just the top is my new tank. The other's are my hubby's, he helped me post and wanted to put some of his in too. (he likes showing Herb off) The big guy (Herb) is some sort of South American cichlid and the smaller one is a jewel. Anyway my tank is a bit crowded w/stuff; I'll probably take the little broken pot and the sponge bob thing out of there-- I was using them to try to help cycle. (though spongebob is pretty fun!) If you look really hard you can see my danios up on top. (they are eating) Thanks again for looking & for your advice. Congrats to you guys that also recently finished cycling! Coler, would you just put one Jewel in a 29? I love your tank, it's awesome!
