Hi Friends !

The Fungus on my Driftwood is just flourishing like anything.

The website below says that the Fungus will go off by itself and some fishes like to eat this fungus. Just wanted to request you to kindly advice a few fishes that would cler off this fungus. I read somewhere that Sucker cats and plecos eat and clean the fungus and I transfered a Clown Pleco in to the tank from another tank, but it doesnt even go near the fungus. Infact all my fish and shrimps never even go near this driftwood because of the fungus. Kindly help me.

Also will any anti-fungal treatments for the fish, work for this fungus ? Is there any good anti-fungal medicine that will kill this fungus and at the same time not harm the fishes and shrimps.

Kindly advice friends.
Thanks !
Kush

How about you just take the driftwood out and wash off the fungus yourself?

still has a chance of coming back since at times its whats inside the wood thats causing it..

yes, I agree with bk828... I've found the fungus comes back more often if you wash the wood repeadedly... instead I prefer to let it die off on it's own, and use a hose to siphon off any large bits of it at water change times. as it begins to die down you'll notice your shrimp and cats eating it. It seems to me that it's some aging/leeching process going on, and the fungus dies when it has exhausted the wood, or created a film...

I just had that problem with wood in a new tank about a month ago. Covered the whole peice, and then died off very suddenly after about 2-3 weeks.

did you properly prepare the wood before putting it in the tank?

My apple snails love to munch on that stuff. Hearing that it's gonna disappear makes me sad for them :( Oh well. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it's becoming quite unsightly. Mine hasn't grown to be that long at all, but I do think the snails are keeping it trim.

"grade A"? sounds kinda hokey to me. try prepping the wood and then putting it back in the tank. visit the article section, there is a writeup there about how to do it.
