hi i was wondering what the levels in my tank should be i have 1 oscar in a 60 gallon tank with a biowheel filter. also any suggestions at all having an oscar? new to having fish as a hobby nice to have a relaxing tank instead of violent moves. fish make me happy. oh also should i add anything else like give him a friend or something? thanks

the levels are nitrate 5ppm/nitrite 0ppm/ph is 7/carbonate hardness is 180ppm and general hardness is 180ppm

i couldnt afford the nice test kit so i had to get the strips but i figured they are better than nothing. is my tank ok?

also what are good plants for oscars everything i put in it he rips up and pull out except sords

ok well i got my question answered just took about 30 min digging through internet sites.

No plants will ever survive with an oscar. You could try Java ferns but I would not raise my hopes that those plants will survive. A 60g can support only one oscar, nothing more unless you change your mind and settle for a community tank instead which is twice the fun compared to a tank with only one fish in it.

The most reliable test kit still is the API liquid test kit. Test strips are not that reliable and are inaccurate.

I agree with what Lupin said. Invest in a liquid kit. API FW kit at Petsmart is around $20 with the online pricematching. Just bring in the printed off online price and they should match that price. Some stores dont but most do.
