So I just started the whole reef thing. I'm starting to get this bright bright green algea on my rocks and glass it grows very quickly I clean it of the glass at least 5 times a day. It comes of very easily and with the mag float going over it it seems to like disintegrate like a green smoke. HELP!

It is common yes, I don't get it as much as I did when the tank was newer though.

Does/did it grow on your sand also?

If you just started reef, then you just started putting intense amount of light into your tank. This is just natural.

Even if your tank params are totally pristine, and you have no nuissance algae growth, and you overfeed in a day, you can get that growth.

Funny thing about this type of ecosystem...it adapts VERY quickly to conditions. You have any food for algae with intense lights and it will use it.

This is why test kits for things like phosphate are kind of tricky... You can have massive amounts of phosphate in your system, but it will read 0 because it's being turned into algae asap.

You might have some cyano if it is on the sand.
